Age Group Changes
02/04/26

This year, following lengthy consultation by UKA and all the governing bodies, competition age groups are changing.
The previous U13,U15, U17 etc age groups are changing to a newly structured U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U20 and senior age groups. The aim is to support athletes with their progression, reduce pressure around school years 11 and 13 and ensure retention of athletes. The new age groups will be used throughout Great Britain and in line with rest of the world.
The attached table can help you identify which age group your young athlete competes in for the summer track season ahead.
Just a couple of points;
- as with the previous structure, athletes spend two years within each age group
- the athletic competition year runs from 1st October to 30th September each year. When your child moves up a school year this September this can mean they move up an age group on 1st October.
So this year there will be new club records for all events and a chance for athletes to set the benchmark for the future generations to try and improve on.
