London Mini Marathon Selection Criteria
LONDON MINI MARATHON - SELECTION INFORMATION
 
The London Mini Marathon is a unique and inspirational event that is integrated into the TCS London Marathon programme. The event provides an exciting development opportunity for young Welsh athletes. Last Year we had Alfie taking part in the U13 age group race (see photo)
 
ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY
 
To be considered for selection, athletes must satisfy the following:
1. Be eligible to compete for Wales by either:
a. Birth
b. Parentage
c. Retention
d. Residence (minimum 3 years)
2. Currently reside in Wales Competition
 
FORMAT:
The Virgin London Mini Marathon is a 2.6km race run on the London Marathon course.
 
 
The eligible age groups for the race are based on age groups for Road and XC as of 1st September 2022 (new school year):
 
U13 (school years 7 and 8)
U15 (school years 9 and 10)
U17 (School years 11 and 12)
 
6 athletes per gender in each age group will be selected to compete in the race. Selection Process
The selection meeting will take place on Thursday 1st September 2022. The Selection Panel) will comprise of 2 voting members from the Welsh Athletics Performance Team; a member of the team management and 2 people nominated by the Road and Cross-Country Committee.
There is no automatic selection for this event.
 
 
In coming to its decision, the Panel will consider the following criteria (in priority order):
 
1. Current form in the 2022 Track and Field Season (Prioritising 1200m (U13), 1500m and 3000m results)
2. Licensed road races from 1500m to 2 miles
3. Previous /other Championship performances
Selected athletes will be informed by e-mail on Friday 2nd September 2022.
 
APPEALS PROCESS
There shall be no right of appeal to the selection of the Welsh team made by the Panel.
 
DE-SELECTION PROCESS
In the event of an athlete sustaining an injury following acceptance of their position on the team, they are required to inform the Team Leader immediately. De-selection of an athlete may occur following:
1. Failure to achieve the standard fitness testing protocols where required.
Failure to adhere to the Welsh Athletics athlete code of conduct

Welsh Athletics reserves the right to amend this Selection Policy at its sole discretion and will make any amended version publicly available (including the date on which the amendment was made) at
