North Wales Cross Country League @ Shrewsbury
Stirling performances all around today from the tremendous twenty athletes who made the journey to beautiful Baschurch for the 2nd round of the North Wales Cross Country League. The course was not ‘quite’ as muddy as expected but with a chill to the day, a few hills and some choppy ruts on the downhill sections it was nicely challenging none the less.
The morning’s junior races kicked off with Alfie claiming second place in an excellent race in the under 15 boys. Eira followed in the under 15 girls race making her cross country debut for the club and also coming home in an amazing second place. Well done to you both ????????.
In the under 13 girls race we had new recruits Freya and Tia racing for the first time in Colwyn Bay colours. Both are used to the challenges of cross country but it was great to see them making good progress in their field and showing fabulous potential, well done girls ????
Owen who turned 9 earlier this year was able to make his long awaited cross country league debut in the under 11 boys race. Running a strong race he is certainly going to be a force to be reckoned with over a few cross country races to come! ????
Olivia, another new recruit also raced her first cross country race in Colwyn bay colours in the under 11 girls race. She finished with a fantastic sprint finish on difficulty ground which showed that she has a good engine - looking forward to seeing Liv’s progress this year ????
Meanwhile in the afternoon’s senior races, the Colwyn Bay women’s team of five was led home over the 3 mile course by Ella, followed by Anne, Laurie, Emma and Maureen. The men had one of their strongest teams of the year and were led home by Jared, followed by Emyr, Neal, Russ, Greg, Josh, Iam M, Ian T and Chris. A special mention to the ever-improving Josh who is picking his way through the field and going from strength to strength with a every race - fantastic Josh! ????????
Special thanks to Bernie and Dave for their hard work with the organisation of the day and also to hosts Shrewsbury Athletics club for a stunning course, great facilities and dry weather!
