Welsh Junior Championships 2026

*U13, U15 & U20 Welsh Indoor Track & Field Championships - Day 1*

8 athletes competed on Day 1 of the Indoor Championships in Cardiff.

The day commenced with Jake and Eira running in the U20 400m heats.

Jake finished 3rd in his heat with time of

58.32s. Great effort Jake.

Eira came in 2nd in her heat with a time of 1.01.92 and qualified in the top 8 to make the semi finals. In the semis, Eira ran a time of 1.02.78. Fantastic achievement Eira.

Sienna was up next in the U13G Shot Put. She put in three solid efforts with the final throw landing a new PB of 6.86m and secured a place on the podium in 2nd place. Congratulations on the Silver!

Ruben (U17M) then ran up a category in the U20M 1500m heats. A very competitive heat saw Ruben leave everything on track with a close finish at the line. A great effort Ruben achieving a new PB of 4.21.91.

Maddie made her first appearance at the the Indoor Champs today and was up next in U13G 1500m. Maddie showed grit to run most of the 7.5 laps solo ahead of the rear group and finished the time trial 7th overall with a time of 5.41.03.

The afternoon saw the majority of our athletes compete in the 60m sprint.

Jake and Connor were up first in the U20M 60m.

Jake crossed the line in his heat with a new PB of 7.61s. Great work Jake!

Connor finished his heat in 1st with a 7.14s and progressed to the semi-finals. In the semis, Connor ran his fastest time of the day with 7.09s and progressed to the U20 final. Connor's 7.12s run achieved him a place on the podium and a silver medal. Congratulations Connor!

Up next were Sienna and Anya in U13G 60m sprint. The girls came in 1st and 2nd respectively in the same heat, achieved PBs of 8.44s and 8.89s and secured their places in the final. In the final, Sienna ran a further PB to cross the line in 1st place with a time of 8.41s and obtain the title of Welsh Champion. Congratulations Sienna on the gold! With her first appearance at the Welsh Champs, Anya finished the final in 5th place out of 22 competitors - an achievement to be proud of!

Hugo returned this year after achieving U13B 60m Champion last year, but due to issues with his quad, he made the mature but difficult decision to withdraw from the U15B 60m sprint. Hugo was a good ambassador for the club and remained in the warm up area assisting athletes from other NW clubs with their warm ups.

The club was also represented by coaches

Lian and Jordan in the arena area supporting our athletes. Club Secretary, John was on the photo finish and it was great to have student coach Jacob supporting the athletes too.

U13, U15 & U20 Welsh Indoor Track & Field Championships - Day 2

Colwyn Bay Athletic Club were represented by 8 athletes at Day 2 of the Indoor Championships in Cardiff. Six of the competitors returned for more action of the second day and we're joined by sisters, Elin and Lois Evans.

Elin was up first to run 4 laps of the 200m circuit in the U15G 800m. Elin finished her heat in 1st position in 2.25.42min, and had a long wait until the final in the afternoon. The final was very competitive but Elin remained dominant at the front for the entire race, denying any challenges for the lead and finished 1st in 2.25.34 to become Welsh Champion

Ruben (U17) returned for Day 2 to compete up a division again. The U20M 800m. Ruben ran well in his heat to gain 3rd place and achieved a new PB of 2.04.77min. Well done Ruben!

Connor and Jake also returned for Day 2 to compete in the U20M 200m. Connor ran his heat in 24.16s and Jake ran his heat in 25.10s, both achieving 3rds. Great effort gents!

Anya and Sienna returned for Day 2 in the U13G 200m. The girls blitzed their respective heats, each finishing 1st and setting new PBs - Sienna 28.57s and Anya 29.71s. The girls went into the semi finals as the two fastest from the 23 competitors in the heats and again won their respective semi-finals to go into the final four as the fastest two. In the final Sienna ran a commanding PB of 28.52s to take the gold, just ahead of Anya who finished in second place. Congratulations Sienna on getting Welsh Champion

After a wait through to the afternoon, it was Lois' turn in the U13G 800m. The time trial format took place over 3 heats, with Lois running in heat one. Lois absolutely smashed her heat running a solo lead ahead of the pack that increased with each lap. After the four laps Lois finished her heat in 1st place with a new PB of

2.33.51min. After the three heats, Lois achieved the third fastest overall time securing her a place on the podium. Congratulations on your bronze medal Lois!

Between the 200m semis and finals, Sienna also competed in the U13G Long Jump. Sienna achieved three legal jumps that increased in length each time. The final jump measured in at 4.12m and put her in 2nd place overall. Congratulations on your Silver medal Sienna!

All of the athletes were great ambassadors for the club and were supported in the arena by coaches Lian and Jordan.
